THE FORBIDDEN CHILD

PIPER ⇌ TIICHIA

For millennia, believers have braced themselves for the prophesied arrival of the Forbidden Child. After news of the wise Seer's premonition spread, an entire continent was ensnared by a paralysing uncertainty as they pondered its irreversable effect on their world. Depiction after apocalyptic depiction emerged, from the delicate artworks of the human and scriptures of the sorcerer, to the bolder flame-borne illustrations of the drake, painting the horrific beast and its inevitable destruction of all they held sacred. It will be an unforgivable existence, they insisted, an idea so obnoxious it quelled even the most hostile realms into mutual disgust.

Ideas never die.
Although their potencies waver with the ticking of the clock, they exist always in the minds of those beings with the cognition to entertain them.

Minds evolve ideas. Ideas evolve the mind.
Thousands of years later, the legend has transcended the Seer's field of vision, giving rise to a library of fables cross-culturally diffused from grandparent, to parent, to child, its origins fading in creative liberties.

Despite an overwhelming diversity of people, there remains one taboo; while the story may be told, and retold, the overarching message must not stray from His caution:
The Forbidden Child, the abomination, is a dauntless antagonist to be feared and destroyed.

THE PROTAGONIST

Little did they know, that when the terrifying beast arrived, it would, in fact, take the form of a short woman with hair as golden as a rose-tinted sun. She is petite yet indelicate, for her frame is toned by her great adventures. Her pale honey tan and subtle, heart-shaped lips embrace humility while a dusting of cardinal scales coruscate in bold draconic pride. Scattered, they freckle her cheeks and meander like red rivers downstream, finally pooling as thick, pyrogenic skin on the tail that trails behind her, and her clawed hands.

In the darkness, the eyes of a drake gleam ablaze in citrine and flecks of golden ash. Her pupils are narrow - predatory - and her forked tongue charred by fiery breath. It rests between pointed fangs, razor sharp. Oh, how brutal she could be if tried.

Yet in spite of her adeptness for combat, she has suffered many losses - be it by naiveté or betrayal. Raised welts upon her chest and abdomen, and a fractured horn are a source of traumatic memories with the power to stun into silence. They are scars, persistent reminders of why trust is not to be easily granted.
Irreparable.

DUALITY

Piper. Once a name for humankind, it was adopted by the drake and twisted into a derogatory nature for the atrocious being who betrayed all they stand for. It was a rejection of the feeble norms associated with the sheep mentality of the race deemed inferior.

It was PRIDE.

Piper.
It is a slur used not only against the hybrid, but spewed like venom from the mouths of bullies and stabbed into the backs of failed serpentine warriors. It is a double-edged sword cleaving what was once an unpenetrable collective as they brawl over the constitution of their own hierarchy.

PIPER
She is unwelcome in the barren lands of the drake. She is the disgrace whose label inflicted her boastful kin with divisive scorn between themselves. She is the marginalised fragmentor - and, despite her tiny size, a cruel dictator's only threat.

She is hope.

Tiichia. It was a name humankind muttered in awe spiked with the selfish desire to own and conquer. It was exotic, wild, a tool to dehumanise the frightened young girl headlining their expertly devised, horrifically degrading freak show. It was a false sense of victory over their fated demise.

It was GREED.

Tiichia.
It is a name muttered in trepidation. It is mourning the onslaught of "innocent" spectators following the beast's escape. It is the determined vow of vengeance for splattered blood lost with the sickening screams of the scorched in a billowing smokescreen.

TIICHIA
She is one monster borne from the death of another, the embodiment of draconic uncivilisation and the nightmarish beast to be hunted and destroyed. Though monstrous as her acts have been, she is but a woman - frightened and yearning for belonging in a world where rejection lurks in every corner. She is the bud of a brand new nation, one in which personality prevails over race and discrimination is diminished.

She is revolutionary.
